"Jay" by Sherwin Long

medium: Acrylic on wood
6.5"x 10.5"

I like this piece a lot because of the wood grain that shows.  I like working on wood because it soaks the paint well and adds a cool texture to everything.  The next one will be kanye

"Little Giant" by Sherwin Long

This sketch is of Spud Webb, the shortest Slam Dunk Champion.  He overcame the odds of being an under dog and became a source of inspiration for millions.

"Monroe" by Sherwin Long

medium: Acrylic
5.5"x 7"
This is one of my favorite wood blocks because it was one of the first ones I made, but since then I have done so many styles that I like this one because of its simplicity.

"Gaurdian" by Sherwin Long

medium: Acrylic
surface: wood
4"x 8.5"
This painting is a representation of my "totem" my spirit animal that embodies my personality and empowers me when I am in need of strength.  I am a spiritual person because through enlightenment we can reach levels and depths of ourselves we never knew existed.  Our true potential.

"Fortress of the Oracle" by Sherwin Long

stage1(mapping the composition on the wood)
medium: Charcoal, Acrylic Paint
surface: wood
11"x 9"
This is the first stage of my painting process.  I draw the composition on the surface in charcoal pencil, and mark where the highlights will be.  Then slowly do washes of acrylic paint on the wood to build up different color variations.

stage 2 (The Finish)
medium: Spray Paint, Acrylic, Charcoal
In the 2nd stage I spray painted the background red. Then added the stencils in.  This is the hardest part to me because I have to decide where the symbols and letters will go to make a effective and appealing composition.  This piece is about the home of the oracle in my dreams.

"After hour Owls" by Sherwin Long

medium: Acrylic, spray paint, charcoal
size: 24"x 30"
A sneak peek from my graphic novel, this painting is still in progress.

"Elvis" by Sherwin Long

medium: Charcoal
surface: wood
size: 2.5"x 3.5"
I wanted to try something new so I started drawing on wood and realized how much I liked the retro look it gave my work.  So I did  about 20 more wood blocks.

"ROAR" by Sherwin Long

medium: Charcoal
18"x 24"
This is the first self portrait that I actually worked really hard on.  The most difficult part about drawing anything is getting the proportions right, so that's what I focused on. The bigger the drawing the easier it is to add details so I had a lot of fun drawing the hair and mouth.

"Eyes that search for more" by Sherwin Long

medium: Charcoal Pastel
5"x7"
This piece is a portrait of my friend Maritza.  She is very intelligent, loyal, and beautiful.  I am thankful to have someone like her in my life because I know no matter what she will always be there for me.

"Nicki Minaj" by Sherwin Long

medium: graphite
size: 9"x12"
This one was a practice piece before i follow through with the painting.  I enjoy drawing a lot but painting is more forgiving because its easier to hide mistakes.
